Cosmetic and Perfume Tips

Here are some Top Tips for parfum Lovers;

Perfume develops in "notes", top note - the first scent, middle note, after about 15 minutes and finally your base note which will develop after an hour or so. It's the base note which will linger and what is most important.

Layering fragrance. Its worth buying the shower gel and moisturiser and using this in the day. Otherwise too much can be overpowering. Then use just the perfume for a night out.

Too much is not nice for the person next door. A simple dab on the collarbones or behind the knees (scent rises), is enough for that person to want to get closer without choking the person next to you. Don't apply behind your ears, the sweat and fragrance can mix and cause strange odours!

Be careful spraying scent if you are wearing jewellery, sometimes the metal and oils can react and cause irritation on the skin. UVA rays can also cause a skin reaction with some perfumes, so don't apply before hitting the beach, or if you do, not where the sun will catch your skin.

Do choose a lighter version for the summer. Open pores in hot weather soaks up perfume, making it stronger, therefore a lighter version is ideal for the summer. Many companies stock a summer version of their best selling fragrance.

Perfumes, Parfums, EDT - what is the differance?

To help explain the differance in strengths, we have listed below the types of fragrances, concentrates and the average time it takes for the scent to evaporate.

Perfume

5% - 30% concentration of perfume oil

6-8 hours

Eau De Parfum/EDP

8% - 15% concentration of perfume oil

5-7 hours

Eau De Toilette/EDT

4% - 8% concentration of perfume oil

4-6 hours

Eau De Cologne/Aftershave

3% - 5% concentration of perfume oil

2-3 hours

So these are all things to consider when purchasing a fragrance, also the more alcohol a product contains the faster the scent will evaporate, Afershave normally contains the highest alcohol content

Also you may find some fragrances smell differently and also last longer when applied to some peoples skin than others, this is because of the chemical make up and balance of our skin.

The Perfect Way To Apply Eyeshadow

For best results use the correct brushes. An eyeshadow brush with a firm round tip, is ideal for applying base. For contour, use a tapered brush and for underlining the eyes, use a small flat brush. Try to get the best quality brushes, it does makes a difference to the final result.

Using a neutral eyeshadow (light mushroom, taupe, beige), cover the whole eyelid from the lashes to the brow bone. I prefer to use a slightly matte colour as the base, you can always add shimmer later.

Apply the darkest colour (charcoal grey is typical of a smokey eye), to your brush, gently tap to get rid of any excess powder, you can always build up colour, but its best not to apply too much straight away. Blend the colour into the crease of your eyelid, being careful not to go above the crease line, wing the colour up at the outer corners for a more "sex kitten" look. Keep blending until there are no harsh edges.

To complete the eyeshadow, apply a shimmer highlighter just under the brow bone to lift the eyes, you can also apply this to the inner corner of your eyes, to widen them.

With a soft kohl pencil in black/brown, line as close as you can to your top and bottom lashes, in small strokes, then gently blend. I find the pencils with added smudgers are great, if not use a cotton bud.

Curl your lashes and apply two coats of thickening and lengthening mascara on both the top and bottom lashes.

Finally groom your eyebrows, either with a brow fix or a pencil close to your natural brow shade.
